...and where is the "d" at the end of "Shave"?

Shave Ice (no "d". Per Hawaiian dialect and tradition, the "d" is dropped) is a delectable ice treat, not to be rivaled. Shaved from large blocks of ice with a machine that operates much like a drill press, Shave Ice is made by spinning the block around while a 3 inch blade literally shaves the ice.  It is piled high in a cup and has the texture very similar to Rocky Mountain snow--light and fluffy.

If you are thinking to yourself, "Isn't Shave Ice just another word for snow cone?" shame on you!  Snow cone, Shave Ice's prodigal brother, is made by crushing ice into tiny pieces. These pieces of ice can't absorb the flavoring which is why the flavoring sinks to the bottom, leaving you will diluted bites of crushed ice you have to consume before you get the good stuff. When flavoring is poured on to Shave Ice it saturates into the snow which mean every single bite is melt-in-your-mouth delicious and refreshing.

So, next time someone calls Shave Ice a snow cone, defend it tooth and nail and tell the world the truth about Shave Ice!
